Price Analyst

Job Description
Price Analyst is responsible for the technical oversight of sectors involved in trading of monitored goods and services under the Price Monitoring and Consumer Affairs Act No. 5 of 2023.
Utilising advanced data analytics and econometric modelling, the role is required to conduct evaluations of business cost structures and maintaining comprehensive pricing databases, in doing so identifies market distortions such as price-fixing, predatory pricing, and collusion.
Price Analyst also serves as a strategic link between the Bureau and key stakeholders ensuring complex economic trends are translated into actionable policy briefs and provide reports to guide senior management in making evidence-based decisions.
Organisation Description
The Bureau of Price Monitoring and Consumer Affairs is responsible for the monitoring of prices of goods and services, the intervention of markets through price regulation and the promotion of consumer welfare as provided for under Price Monitoring and Consumer Affairs Act No. 5 of 2023.
Selection Criteria
• A degree in Economics, Finance, or Forensic Accounting, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
• 5+ years’ experience in financial auditing, price analysis, market research, economic regulation, or economic modelling.
• Expert-level data visualisation and statistical analysis with proficiency in data analysis tools, such as Excel, Stata or R, Python, MS Power BI or Tableau, or other statistical software.
• Understanding of competition law, regulatory frameworks, and market structures in Vanuatu and/or the Pacific Islands.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights.
• Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic regulatory environment.
• Experience in working with large datasets, developing econometric models, and conducting market simulations is an advantage.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience in working with government agencies, industry representatives, and consumer advocacy groups.
