Job Description
The Mt. Yasur Foundation is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead a community-based organization delivering practical, culturally grounded programs on Tanna Island. The Executive Director will provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership across key area-based development programme areas including responsible tourism, cultural preservation and strengthening our foundation's capacity.
Organisation Description
The Mt Yasur Foundation exists to foster sustainable community-led development and humanitarian initiatives in the communities surrounding Mt. Yasur Volcano. We achieve this by:
> Partnering with local communities to identify and address their core needs;
> Promoting responsible tourism that benefits locals and protects the environment;
> Preserving and celebrating the unique cultural heritage and traditional knowledge of Tanna Island;
> Building resilience to natural hazards and economic shifts through education, infrastructure, and diversified livelihoods;
> Responding to humanitarian actions during disasters.
Selection Criteria
> At least 7–10 years of relevant senior management experience in community development, nonprofit management, or international development, including management of complex, multi-component programs.
> Bachelor’s degree in development, nonprofit management, environmental science, international relations, or equivalent senior management experience in the fields of development and humanitarian programmes (Master's degree an advantage)
> Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor engagement, budgeting, financial oversight, and transparent grant or program reporting.
> Strong experience working with indigenous or local communities in culturally sensitive ways, ideally in the Pacific or other small island developing state contexts.
> Excellent leadership, communication, partnership-building, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to inspire teams and build trust across diverse stakeholders.
> A strong commitment to sustainable development, cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, integrity, and community-led change.
> Fluency in English is required and willingness to learn basic Bislama or local languages will be an advantage.

This role carries significant responsibility for fiscal accountability and transparent financial management. The successful candidate must be able to manage funds responsibly and maintain the trust of donors, partners, and communities.
