VANUATU BEEF INDUSTRY VALUE CHAIN ANALYSIS
We are seeking a qualified and experienced consultant to undertake a Value Chain Analysis of the Beef Industry in Vanuatu.
Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to engage a consultant to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the beef value chain in Vanuatu—from production through to consumption and export—and to provide evidence-based recommendations for:
- Policy development
- Investment opportunities
- Institutional strengthening
- Enhanced private sector participation
Key Objectives
The consultant will be required to:
1. Map the beef value chain, including:
- Input and support services
- Aggregation
- Transport
- Slaughtering and processing
- Marketing and distribution
- Scope and scale of informal and ceremonial markets
2. Assess efficiency and constraints across each stage of the value chain
3. Recommend strategic actions and investment options to strengthen and improve the performance of the beef sector
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
- An advanced degree in Agriculture, Livestock Production, Agricultural Economics, Value Chain Development, or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience conducting value chain studies (preferably in the livestock sector)
- Familiarity with Pacific Island agricultural systems or small-island economies
- Strong analytical, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural and remote settings
- Knowledge of Bislama or prior experience working in Vanuatu is highly desirable
