Ratua Island Resort, a premier eco-luxury destination hidden within the pristine islands of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu, is seeking an experienced, safety-conscious, and hospitable Resort Boat Captain.

Role Overview

In this role, you will be the frontline ambassador of our island, responsible for the safe transit of guests, staff, and supplies between Luganville (Espiritu Santo) and Ratua Private Island.

You will oversee the resort’s fleet of boats and ensure all marine operations meet strict safety, luxury, and eco-friendly standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe Navigation: Operate resort vessels safely for guest transfers, airport pickups, day excursions, fishing trips, and snorkeling tours.
  • Guest Relations: Welcome guests with authentic Vanuatu hospitality, assist with luggage, and share local knowledge safely during transits.
  • Fleet Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-departure checks, schedule regular engine servicing, and maintain marine equipment to pristine luxury standards.
  • Supply Logistics: Coordinate the secure loading, transport, and unloading of food, fuel, and resort cargo from the mainland.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Enforce strict marine safety regulations, maintain onboard safety gear (life jackets, flares, first aid), and lead water safety protocols.

Selection Criteria & Requirements

  • Licensing: Valid Vanuatu Master/Captain Class license (or equivalent international maritime certification recognized by VIPA/Ports & Marine).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience operating commercial passenger vessels, preferably within the tourism or luxury resort sector.
  • Technical Skills: Sound knowledge of outboard engines, marine mechanics, local reenavigation, and changing weather patterns in Santo.
  • First Aid: Current Marine First Aid and CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills in English; ability to speak Bislama or French is highly desirable. Strong customer service mindset.
