Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Marine Engineer Class 5 to join our vessel operations. The successful applicant will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel’s propulsion systems, machinery, and auxiliary equipment while ensuring compliance with Vanuatu maritime regulations and company safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

* Operate and maintain the vessel’s main engines, generators, and auxiliary machinery.

* Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs to ensure machinery remains in safe working order.

* Monitor engine performance, fuel consumption, and engineering systems.

* Maintain engine room logbooks and maintenance records.

* Ensure compliance with Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA) requirements and applicable maritime regulations.

* Manage fuel, lubricants, and spare parts inventory.

* Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns and emergencies.

* Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible engine room.

* Work closely with the Master and crew to ensure safe and efficient vessel operations.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

* Hold a valid Marine Engineer Class 5 Certificate of Competency (CoC) recognized by the Vanuatu Maritime Safety Authority (VMSA).

* Hold valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates.

* Hold a valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate.

* Have at least 2–3 years’ experience serving on commercial vessels.

* Demonstrate sound knowledge of marine diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and auxiliary machinery.

* Have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

* Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

* Have good written and verbal communication skills.

* Be willing to work flexible hours, weekends, public holidays, and undertake inter-island voyages.

Desirable

* Experience working on domestic passenger or cargo vessels operating within Vanuatu.

* Knowledge of planned maintenance systems (PMS).

* Current First Aid or Advanced First Aid certification.
