Boat Captain

Location: Ratua Private Island Resort, Vanuatu

Ratua Private Island Resort is seeking an experienced and reliable Boat Captain to join our marine operations team. This role is ideal for a safety-focused and responsible professional with excellent knowledge of local waters and a strong commitment to providing safe and enjoyable marine experiences for guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and navigate the resort’s boats and marine vessels
  • Conduct guest transfers, lagoon trips, fishing trips, sightseeing, and other marine activities
  • Ensure the safe embarkation and disembarkation of guests
  • Monitor weather, tides, sea conditions, and other factors affecting safe vessel operations
  • Ensure compliance with maritime safety requirements and resort SOPs
  • Conduct regular checks and basic maintenance of the boat, engine, and safety equipment
  • Identify and report any mechanical or safety issues promptly
  • Maintain accurate records of boat trips, fuel usage, and maintenance
  • Provide guests with safety briefings and excellent customer service
  • Assist with snorkelling, fishing, diving, and other marine activities when required
  • Ensure the boat, equipment, and surrounding marine area are kept clean and well maintained

Requirements

  • Valid Captain/Boat Master licence (Vanuatu or recognised international equivalent)
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience operating boats or passenger/charter vessels
  • Strong knowledge of local waters, tides, weather, and navigation
  • Basic engine maintenance and troubleshooting skills
  • First Aid and Sea Survival certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong communication and guest service skills
  • Responsible, reliable, and safety-conscious attitude
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
  • Ability and willingness to live and work on a remote island

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a resort, tourism, or marine environment
  • Experience operating fishing or charter vessels
  • Experience with guest transfers and marine excursions
  • Knowledge of sustainable marine and environmental practices
  • Additional marine or boat-handling certifications
