Maintenance Officer

Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Maintenance Officer- Port Vila is responsible for all maintenance activities to ensure a safe, efficient and continuous operation of airport infrastructure and facilities at the Port Vila International Airport. This job involves challenging tasks and a significant amount of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

- Carry out day to day maintenance works across airport facilities, terminals and surrounding infrastructure

- Perform general maintenance tasking including joinery, painting, concrete and asphalt repairs, crack sealing and basic plumbing works

- Assist with runway, apron, road and car park maintenance works in accordance with airport safety requirements

- Conduct routine inspections of buildings, pavements, furniture, fixtures and facilities to identify defects that need to be maintained for operational purposes

- Carry out vegetation control and general ground maintenance within airport boundaries and properties

- Comply with aviation safety rules, airside access requirement at all times

- Complete daily work logs, maintenance checklists for submission to Supervisor Maintenance

- Respond to urgent and emergency maintenance issues as directed by the Supervisor

- Support contractors or external service providers during building and construction works on airport premises

- Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Management

Organisation Description

Airports Vanuatu Limited (AVL) is a State-Owned Enterprise responsible for the operation, management and development of Vanuatu's international airport located in Port Vila, Santo, and Tanna.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

- Trade qualification or certificate in Building Construction, Joinery or related field

- 2-3 years of experience in building and construction or similar fields

- Ability to complete maintenance check list and daily work sheets

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including after-hours or emergency call-outs as required

- Have a good command of English or French or both

- Good interpersonal skills (verbal and written)

- Ability to work independently and be part of a team

Desirable:

- Certificate I- Building Construction, Joinery, Plumbing or related field

- Previous experience working in a similar environment

- Basic computing skills, inclusive use of email

Special Attributes:

- Must be medically and physically fit

- Must have a valid Police Clearance

- The ability to respond to any late nights or early morning hours' emergency at the airport premises

- Valid Driver's license
