POWER & ENERGY SYSTEMS MANAGER
Vodafone Vanuatu is seeking for a Power & Energy Systems Manager to be based in Port-Vila.
Mission
The Power & Energy Systems Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, engineering oversight, and operational management of all Vodafone Vanuatu power and energy infrastructure. This role consolidates the former Team Leader Power and Power Engineering Officer positions to ensure end-to-end accountability for power system availability, efficiency, resilience, and cost control across all mobile network sites, buildings, and data centres.
The role is critical to maintaining high network availability, supporting national connectivity, and protecting Vodafone Vanuatu’s infrastructure investments.
Activities:
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management
- Lead, manage, and develop the Power Team, including technicians and junior engineers.
- Set clear objectives, priorities, and performance standards aligned to business and network targets.
- Ensure adequate succession planning, skills development, and safety compliance within the team.
2. Power Network Operations & Maintenance
Manage the operation and maintenance of all power infrastructure, including:
- Diesel generators
• Solar and hybrid power systems
• Batteries and rectifiers
• Cooling and air-conditioning systems
• Develop and enforce preventive and corrective maintenance programs in line with manufacturer
specifications and best practices.
• Ensure rapid response and restoration during power-related network outages.
3. Engineering, Audits & Monitoring
- Design, implement, and maintain power monitoring systems across all Vodafone sites.
- Conduct regular power audits and efficiency assessments of network and building infrastructure.
- Analyse performance data to reduce genset runtime, fuel consumption, and operational cost.
4. Network Projects & Expansion
- Provide engineering leadership for new site builds, upgrades, relocations, and energy system improvements.
- Participate in project planning, scoping, vendor evaluation, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure power designs are robust, scalable, and suitable for Vanuatu’s environmental conditions.
5. Data Centre, Buildings & Fire Systems
- Manage power systems, air-conditioning, and fire control systems for:
- ITS Data Centres
- Vodafone offices and technical buildings
- Coordinate with IT/IP teams and external vendors to ensure continuous service availability.
6. Fuel, Assets & Budget Management
- Manage fuel supply, storage, monitoring, and reconciliation for all sites.
• Control power section budgets and expenditure within approved limits.
• Manage spares, tools, test equipment, and asset inventories to reduce downtime and risk.
7. Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Act as Vodafone’s technical focal point for power-related matters with suppliers, contractors, and authorities.
- Coordinate closely with Network Operations, Planning, IT/IP, and Field Operations teams.
- Support management in resolving disputes related to power infrastructure damage or service interruption.
8. Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and databases for audit and reference.
- Provide regular performance, risk, and improvement reports to management.
Key Deliverables (First 6–12 Months)
- Reduction in generator runtime and fuel consumption on priority sites.
- Improved power monitoring coverage and reporting accuracy.
- Updated site power audit and resilience improvement plan.
- Stabilised preventive maintenance program with measurable KPIs.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Degree or advanced diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Technical Engineering, or Energy Systems.
- Experience
- Minimum 7–10 years experience in power systems operations and maintenance.
- At least 3–5 years in a managerial or senior engineering role.
- Proven experience with:
➢ Hybrid and off-grid power systems
➢ Telecom or critical infrastructure environments
➢ Tropical / remote operating conditions (preferred)
