ACCOUNTANT

National Housing Corporation (NHC) • Contract

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the position of Accountant based in Port Vila, Vanuatu. This position will play a critical role in supporting the financial recovery, institutional strengthening, and sustainable operations of NHC.

  • Contract Type: Contract – Competitive Recruitment
  • Monthly Salary: VT 150,000
  • Duration: 3 Years, renewable

Purpose of the Position

The accountant is responsible for the day-to-day financial management and accounting functions of NHC. The successful candidate will ensure that financial transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, reported, and supported by appropriate documentation while contributing to the Corporation’s financial recovery and business continuity objectives.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and financial transactions.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and cash management activities.
  • Support debt recovery and receivables reconciliation.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and budget monitoring reports.
  • Assist with implementation of the NHC Chart of Accounts and accounting systems.
  • Support grant management, acquittals, audits, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain financial records relating to NHC assets and liabilities.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Experience in bank reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Professional accounting qualification or progress towards one.
  • Experience working with Government, State-Owned Enterprises, or statutory bodies.
  • Experience managing grant-funded programmes.
  • Knowledge of Government of Vanuatu financial management requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits and financial recovery programmes.
